Brew Rituals

Brewing great coffee doesn't have to be complicated

Whether you're using a French press, pour-over, or drip machine, the basics are the same: fresh beans, clean water, and a little attention to detail. Here's how to get the most out of every bag.

Start with fresh coffee

Coffee tastes best within 2-4 weeks of roasting. Check the roast date on your bag and store it in an airtight container away from light and heat. Skip the fridge—room temperature is perfect.

Use the right ratio

A good starting point is 1:16—that's 1 gram of coffee for every 16 grams of water. For a standard cup, try 15-18 grams of coffee (about 2 tablespoons) to 240-280 grams of water (roughly 8-10 ounces).

Grind fresh, grind right

Grind your beans just before brewing for the best flavor. Match your grind size to your brewing method: coarse for French press, medium for drip, fine for espresso. If you don't have a grinder, we're happy to grind your beans for you—just let us know your brewing method.

Water matters

Use filtered water if your tap water tastes off. Aim for water between 195-205°F (just off the boil). Too hot and you'll extract bitterness; too cool and you'll miss the flavor.

Take your time

Let your coffee bloom—pour just enough water to wet the grounds and wait 30 seconds. This releases trapped gases and helps the coffee extract evenly. Then pour slowly and steadily.

Experiment and enjoy

These are guidelines, not rules. Adjust the ratio, grind size, or brew time until you find what tastes best to you. Great coffee is coffee you enjoy—there's no wrong way to make it yours.
